Stainless Steel Airbox
Torqit’s Stainless Steel Airbox is designed with a tapered lid for maximum airflow and engine efficiency. Made tough for tough Australian conditions.
An airbox cleans and removes particles from the air before sending it on to the engine for combustion. By improving the quality of air reaching your engine, a tightly sealed airbox improves engine performance and offers potential fuel savings.
Whether driving through dust, water or just pollutants around town, think of an airbox as a preventative measure against wear and tear on your engine. This means less maintenance for you, and a longer lifespan for your vehicle.
What is an Airbox and Why It Matters
An air filter box is crucial in a vehicle’s air intake and engine system as follows:
- Function
The filter inside the air box ensures that only clean air can reach the engine. It channels the flow efficiently and maintains the consistent pressure essential for maximised engine performance. - Protection
The sealed environment around the air filter provided by the airbox prevents damaging contaminants from entering the system, affecting moving parts. This minimises engine wear and prolongs its lifespan. - Performance
A steady filtered air supply promotes improved fuel efficiency and smoother engine function, augmenting overall vehicle performance.
Advantages of Torqit’s Stainless Steel Custom Airbox
Every Torqit Airbox is manufactured from 304 grade stainless. Here’s why…
Over time, plastic airboxes lose their clamping ability due to expansion and contraction. As a result of poor sealing and cracks in the plastic, dust and water can enter the airbox and potentially damage your vehicles’ engine, plus reduce power and fuel efficiency.
Manufactured from premium 304 grade stainless steel, Torqit’s Airbox remains structurally rigid when exposed to heat and water. By preventing the warping that is common in plastic airboxes, Torqit’s stainless steel airbox prevents loss of tension around the lid and remains tightly sealed in all conditions.
The rigid steel airbox improves airflow and engine efficiency and protects against the elements by safeguarding against contaminants.

Is your engine being “dusted”?
A tightly sealed airbox is a good idea for both your engine and your bank account.
The Problem
Your engine requires a lot of air for combustion, and this air needs to be free of dust and pollutants for your vehicle to operate at full efficiency and power. When dust and fine particles make it past the airbox and reach the engine, this is known as “dusting”. It can inflict serious damage through the abrasive-like action of fine particles rubbing against your engine’s components. A minor case of dusting may lead to worn turbo blades, reduced boost or send your vehicle into limp mode. At worst, a badly dusted engine will see catastrophic engine failure or irreversible damage done to your cylinders, pistons, valves, injectors etc. In simple terms- you could be facing a total engine replacement plus some very inconvenient downtime and expense.
The Answer
To eliminate all risk of dusting, the airbox on your vehicle needs to be completely sealed. This means the air hoses either side of the airbox need quality joiners, the lid needs to be tightly clamped down, and the airbox filter needs to fit snug so there’s no chance of pollutants bypassing the filter altogether. A quality OEM-certified filter is also essential to keeping the engine clean- it should improve airflow, but not at the expense of clean air.
How It Works
For total peace of mind, Torqit’s Stainless Steel Airbox range includes several key features. Firstly, the tough properties of stainless steel prevent the airbox or seal from warping and deforming around the seal, and ensure the lid remains tightly clamped shut. Secondly, the airbox is connected either side with high flow hoses and silicone joiners for airtight sealing and durability. And lastly, each airbox houses a high quality Ryco filter which meets OEM-certifications and strict testing procedures, while simultaneously increasing airflow with a larger surface area.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation
Air intake box replacement is a relatively straightforward procedure with the right tools and experience. Seeking professional assistance is always the most efficient, practical way to approach replacing an air compressor box, however, for enthusiasts and DIY lovers, the steps are as follows:
- You will need:
- Wrenches
- Drill
- Custom air filter box kit
- Disconnect the battery’s negative terminal for safety
- Remove the old airbox by disconnecting any sensors and hoses and removing the bolts or clips
- Clean and assemble the new air box
- Install by placing the new air filter box in the same location and securing it with the bolts or clips.
- Reconnect the sensors and hoses
- Connect and install the filter in the airbox, ensuring it is correctly seated and secured.
- Reconnect the battery
Maintenance
The air cleaner filter box contributes to the reliability and longevity of the vehicle and must be inspected and maintained regularly for optimum function. Although several factors affect the scheduling of airbox cleaning and replacement (as tackled in detail in the FAQs), a sensible rule of thumb is to replace the filter every 19-24,000 kilometres or 12 months, whichever comes first.

How often should I clean or replace the air filter in the airbox?
Torqits Stainless Steel Airbox comes fitted with quick release stainless steel clips that allow for ease of cleaning. This means no tools are required to clean the filter.
The required cleaning/replacement frequency of air filters depends on several factors, including the typical driving conditions and the air filter used. Some general guidelines are as follows:
- Standard conditions
In normal driving conditions, most vehicles need replacement air filters every 19-24,000 kilometres/12 months. - Severe conditions
In sandy, dusty environments, regular busy traffic, or extreme temperatures, air filters may need replacing every 10-16,000 kilometres. - Inspection schedule
Inspect your air filter regularly, especially if you notice a change in the engine’s performance, reduced fuel efficiency, or hear uncommon engine noises. A simple visual inspection should provide enough information to assess whether the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced. - Reusable filters
Reusable cotton or foam air filters should be cleaned per the manufacturer’s instructions. They typically recommend cleaning every 24-48,000 kilometres.
