Forward-facing snorkels

Traditional thinking says a forward-facing snorkel for a 4WD is superior as air is forced into the system as the vehicle moves. However, this is a misconception. No amount of additional air can be taken in, no matter how much force it carries, as the vacuum section of the snorkel will not allow it. Forward-facing snorkels have three significant disadvantages, namely:

• The opening can catch branches and other objects as it passes, causing potential damage to the vehicle and airflow system or misaligning the snorkel.
