WHY YOUR 200 SERIES LANDCRUISER NEEDS A PERFORMANCE UPGRADE

The 200 Series Toyota Landcruiser is one of Australia’s most versatile and popular 4WD’s, meeting the needs of adventurers and families alike. We all love a V8 diesel, and the 200 Series ticks all the boxes by combining plenty of space with Toyota’s rugged reliability. However where it does fall short is the payload, which brings its own problems in terms of legal weight limits, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency.

These upgrades for the 200 Series Landcruiser fill in the gaps where it’s lacking in performance, regardless of whether you’re touring around Australia, caravanning or taking the family out on the weekend. Here we take a closer look at the key problem areas with the 200 Series, so you can make the most of that untapped power under the hood.

TORQIT’S 200 SERIES PERFORMANCE UPGRADES

Torqit’s performance upgrades for the 200 Series Landcruiser take a simple 3-step approach:

  1. Performance Exhaust
  2. Engine Performance
  3. Pedal Torq

Together, these upgrades help you tackle the following problem areas:

200 SERIES PERFORMANCE EXHAUST UPGRADES

There’s no hiding that the 200 Series Landcruiser is a bulky vehicle, with a reputation for being thirsty. Torqit’s exhaust range for the 200 Series is designed to boost engine performance, improve exhaust flow, and reduce back-pressure for maximum power and fuel savings.

The deep V8 note is an added bonus, especially for our DPF-Back systems which include an x-pipe resonator. The x-pipe is designed to improve gas flow by balancing out uneven exhaust pulses. This steady and continuous flow is what makes it spool up faster, increasing response and bottom torque.

If your 200 Series sees a lot of long distance touring or towing, you’ve probably added an aftermarket fuel tank, an upgraded tow bar and a suspension upgrade. Our exhausts accommodate these as much as possible, to keep your rig functional and safe when under load or heading off the beaten track.

Torqit’s twin exit system is designed to fit around the spare tyre, so if the need arises you’ve still got a full-sized spare on board without taking up any boot space. For the stretched 200 Series, a range of extension pieces are available to extend both our single and twin-exit systems.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE: 200 SERIES POWER MODULE OR MODULEMAP

If you drive a 200 Series, no doubt you’re well aware of the small payload. You can exceed the legal limit just by adding a trailer, camping gear, jerry cans and a few passengers. Add in aftermarket accessories such as tow bars, bull bars and roof racks and you could be dealing with some serious safety issues. A GVM upgrade may let you legally load up the 200 Series with everything you need, but it doesn’t count out another problem- the strain on your rig from all the extra weight.

Added weight from heavy loads, modifications and towing can give your rig a noticeable decline in performance, increasing stress on the engine and using more fuel to keep up with demand. Despite its sturdy towing ability, there’s no denying that additional weight does chew through fuel on the 200 Series, which is a compromise you don’t need to make…

Two options are available to increase pulling power, reduce vehicle stress, and improve fuel efficiency: the Power module engine chip, or the ModuleMap- a remote remapping solution.

Maybe you’ve heard a mate gripe about engine chips being ‘a waste of time’. Likely they’ve installed one of the many mediocre chips out there and were less than impressed with the results. Here we bust the common myths and give you the facts …

If extra weight on your rig leaves it feeling sluggish, a ModuleMap can get you that extra grunt which makes all the difference during towing and hill climbs. With results such as a 34% increase in power and 73% increase in torque, this powerful tool is worth a closer look…

PEDAL TORQ: 200 SERIES THROTTLE CONTROLLER

Before we start talking about throttle controllers, we know what you’re probably thinking. ‘They don’t make any difference’ or ‘I can just put my put my foot down harder to get more response’. It’s one of the cheapest, easiest upgrades you can fit to your 200 Series, and the reactions we get after fitting one to a customer’s vehicle has proved time and time again that you need to actually experience it to believe it.

For a stock vehicle as bulky and heavy as the 200 Series, a Pedal Torq throttle controller will increase its responsiveness right off the mark. Eliminating throttle lag means smoother gear changes, a potential increase in fuel economy, and total control over the accelerator in any situation.

Not only is this going to make your 200 Series feel more lively, it’s going to reduce strain on the vehicle when towing and overtaking. If you’ve found the traction control 200 Series inadequate or fussy to use, that all changes with the Pedal Torq which also gives you complete control off-road. There are two throttle control options available for the 200 Series: the Pedal Torq or Pedal Torq Plus.

An insight into some of the Pedal Torq’s modes…

  • Intelligent Mode: A great way to get a feel for the Pedal Torq, giving you personalised throttle control by automatically adjusting the response depending on your heavy/ light footed driving style.
  • Eco Mode: Tweaks the accelerator for a gentle increase in response while making sure the 200 Series works as efficiently as possible. Ideal for improving fuel economy during touring and towing when moving at a constant speed, with a lot of extra weight on board.
  •  Off Road Mode: Perfect for intense off-road situations involving low traction surfaces, loose rocks and hills, this mode dials down the throttle for total control.
  •  Sport Mode: Ideal for safer driving, towing and overtaking, this mode provides instant response and grunt.
  •  Anti-Theft Mode: If where you park your 200 Series doesn’t feel secure, you can use this mode to immobilise the accelerator for total peace of mind. Until deactivated, your rig won’t be going anywhere.
